I was invited to Edinburgh International Book Festival this summer and I listened to independence debates, talked to people and read statements pro and contra.
Scotts that are for independence are calling London neoliberal and see it as a danger to the society. While the ones against it talk about careers, money, bigger market, etc.
I slowly realized that both are actually commenting about the statement Margaret Thatcher made in 1987 (“there is no such thing as society. There are individual men and women, and there are families.”).
Scottish referendum is actually about her views. They could print her pictures and ask people if they agree with her or not.
Is there society or not?
